Information we receive via cookies

A new EU Cookie Law has been in force since 26 May 2012. This means that every website is now required by law to inform its users about cookies and request permission to use them.

Cookies are small text files of data saved on your computer's hard drive through your browser when you visit a website. These files exchange certain settings and data with the system of the website in question. Saving settings and data allows websites to customize what they are offering to your wishes and make it easier for you to use the website, for example because certain items of your data are saved so you don't have to re-enter them the next time you visit the website.

1. Types of cookies

Temporary and permanent cookies

+ Temporary cookies are deleted when you close your browser. These cookies only apply to the current session and are therefore called 'session cookies'.

+ Permanent cookies remain on your computer, even after you have closed your browser.

Permanent cookies include:

+ Functional or technical cookies: this type of cookie is used to store your login data, for example, or what you put in your shopping cart if you shop online.

+ Non-functional cookies: these cookies record your behaviour as a visitor to the website.

Different types of non-functional cookies:

o  Direct (first-party) cookies. This type of cookie is placed on your hard drive by the website you visit. For example, if you go to a company's website and the website places a cookie on your hard drive so that it can keep track of the products you view and offer you products accordingly when you next visit the website.

o Indirect (third-party) cookies. Indirect cookies are used by advertisers who place targeted advertisements on other companies' websites based on surfing behaviour.

o Google Analytics. Used to collect anonymous visitor data.

Paula’s Choice uses cookies to:

I. allow you to click quickly from one page to the next and to keep track of what's in your shopping cart. (functional cookie)

II. save information you gave us when creating your account, so that you don't need to re-enter this information with your next order. (functional cookie)

III. study the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. (non-functional direct cookie)

IV. record the date and time of your visit to our website and obtain an overview of the total number of visitors to our website and the pages they visited. This data provides us with information about the use of our website. The information is only used to analyse visits to our site, not to establish your identity. (Google Analytics).

V. record the domain name and the host of the computer you use to go online, as well as to save your IP address and information about your browser's software and your operating system (non-functional direct cookies)

Paula’s Choice does NOT sell or distribute this information or share any of it with third parties.

2. Self-management of cookies

You can use the browser settings on your computer to delete cookies that are already on your hard drive and to refuse to accept new ones. The method used to do so differs from one browser to another; use your browser's Help function if necessary.
